The Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Day Pack is perfect to keep in your pocket or in the glove compartment of your car — it’s handy for when, say, you need a spare bag at the market. The WaterField Packable Backpack weighs about 12 ounces; it’s heavier than our other picks but not by much. The bag holds 16 liters of stuff, which is on the smaller side compared with our other picks but still plenty big for a single traveler on a walk.
If a pack is overly heavy or awkward to carry then taking it along on trips becomes uncomfortable. With packable bags they’re mostly used as overflows or for shorter trips, so we did give them some leeway but we also expected the best of the bunch to put up a good show in this department. Ok, so the team were fully aware that this bag isn’t really a proper packable backpack in the sense that most of the others are. But with this in mind, they were lightweight foldable backpack still really impressed by the functionality of this bag given how small it is.

Ultimately, folding backpacks combine practicality, style, and durability, making them a must-have for modern consumers. By understanding the myriad reasons for their popularity, individuals can appreciate the role that these versatile accessories play in everyday life. Whether for travel, work, or leisure, incorporating a folding backpack into one’s life can enhance convenience and efficiency while reflecting personal style. This makes it easier to keep your water bottle, electronics, or maps organized and easy to find. If you want to pack a lightweight jacket, a book, or small gadgets, make sure the backpack has enough room without being too full. Its small size when packed makes it easy to store or carry just in case you need extra space.
It is made from a rather thick, waterproof material, so it’s not going to be as thin and lightweight as most of the other bags you will see in this review. This backpack can be used as a work bag, travel bag, nappy bag, gym bag - you name it. Big enough to fit what you need without compromising on comfort and style. With a long history of making practical gear in the name of preparedness, Victorinox is a go-to for the outdoorsy elite.
It’s similar to the Freefly16 (see above) but is fully waterproof, more spacious, and has a few extra features like load lifters on the shoulder straps and a thin (removable) hip belt. We found the straps too narrow and flimsy, so as with  the other ultralight backpacks, we’d only recommend it for occasional use or lighter loads. I really wanted to like the Sea to Summit daypack as it’s the lightest model available—just 72g/2.5oz—and folds down into a tiny pouch despite its 20-litre capacity. The downside is they are less comfortable and have fewer pockets than the backpacks above. The priority with these daypacks is to be as lightweight and packable as possible.

The moonbeam shade offers a nice departure from the usual black, blue and green but it's not all aesthetics. This design is built for function with webbed back straps, a small zipped front compartment and an internal hanging pocket which turns into a self-storage pouch when it's time to fold it away. It's comfortable to carry thanks to cushioned and contoured shoulder straps and the sternum strap can be removed too if you need to pack more things in. Some designs are more suited for outdoor adventures, while others might seamlessly transition into urban environments for daily use. Choosing a backpack that is not only functional but also appealing to you will enhance your overall experience.

The backpack folds into its inner pocket, compacting to just 4.9 x 3.9 x 7.8 inches for effortless storage. One of the most essential factors to consider when choosing a foldable backpack is its size and capacity. Depending on your travel needs, you’ll want a backpack that can hold all your necessary items without being overly bulky when folded. Most foldable backpacks come in various sizes, typically measured in liters.
We’re a big fan of Eagle Creek packing cubes and trust the quality of their products—this daypack comes with a lifetime warranty. There’s a good amount of storage with a zipped front pocket, two mesh water bottle pockets on the sides, and a zipped inside pocket that doubles as the storage pouch it folds into. Also consider – The Matador ReFraction Packable Backpack is Matador’s newest daypack and we might like it even more than the Freefly. We’ll be doing a full review soon, but it’s well worth considering, especially for urban travel. It’s a little heavier than the Freefly, but it packs into its own pocket, has a pocket on the top and front, and the straps are more padded. The mesh shoulder straps didn’t look like they’d have enough padding, but they are weight distributing and surprisingly comfortable.
For the commuter or around-towner, stretchy side pockets make the perfect spot for a water bottle or mini umbrella, while an exterior zip pocket makes a nice spot for securing slimmer items. In today’s fast-paced world, it’s more important than ever to stay organized and prepared while on the go. That’s where OiOi’s fold-up bags come in - these versatile and compact accessories are perfect for carrying your essentials, no matter where life takes you. From beach bags to travel bags and everything in between, fold-up bags have become an essential accessory for people of all ages and lifestyles.

This guide highlights critical factors to consider when making your purchase. Another minimalistic yet well-appointed packable day bag, this Dakine item offers 22 liters of storage space in an 18” x 10.25” x 8”, 0.7-pound package. Though it is devoid of a storm flap, the backpack’s main compartment is also protected via a drawstring closure. If you’re simply looking for a no-nonsense packable bag with a spartan design — and some exterior features — than it really is hard to beat Hyperlite Mountain Gear’s Summit Pack. In conclusion, choosing the best folding backpack can greatly enhance your travel and outdoor adventures.
It packs down to about the size of a potato, but its lack of overall structure isn’t ideal for long hikes or days of carrying. In addition to being the most traditional-looking backpack of our picks, it feels the most like a traditional backpack. The shoulder straps, which are ergonomically shaped and lined with breathable mesh fabric, make the bag easier to carry over long distances.

If you like this option instead of a more traditional ultralight stuff pack, check some of the other sling packs out there too. While you can’t expect this bag to carry heavy-duty gear, if space and weight are your biggest concerns, this bag will fit into the most extreme packing lists. Its lightweight nature, combined with the matte white Tyvek material looks and feels great. Durability and fashion found a good middle ground with this foldable daypack.
