What a treat for visiting Americans, or anyone really, to dine at Uncle Pete’s. We had a lovely evening with wine, beer, organic salad and pizza - and a fun chat with the charismatic owner and his family. It follows the old train track out to near the new train station before heading back along the river eventually going through the Forest and Seashore Parks. The train station is located quite a walk from the centre of town, but you can catch a mini-bus from the stop to your right when you leave the station. Take your time exploring the different galleries, chatting with local artists, and enjoying the lively atmosphere. The East Coast of Taiwan is challenging to get around by public transportation. I highly recommend renting a car because you will want to swing by and take photos of so many scenic spots. It is the best and most efficient way to enjoy the East.
The bridge represents the waves of the ocean and also the Chinese dragon. The island was once connected to the mainland and used to be home to the Amis tribe, it’s now uninhabited and classified as a nature reserve area. A local legend state that one day, 3 gods visited the island and left their footprints there. The National Forest area has several treks you can choose from. From shorter to longer trails, some are harder than others. I recommend taking the one with all the stairs, tiring but you’ll be rewarded with an amazing view.
