When you leave your remaining balance is refundable some admin fee (TWD20?). And while you're there visit the National Palace Museum. Best collection of Chinese artifacts in the world . Free English tours twice a day , free entry Saturday night after 6ish.
A wonderful view of the ocean and one of the best places to laze around after surfing in the sea. In the cities, lots of signs and menus are in English, and many younger Taiwanese speak English. In 台東名產伴手禮 the countryside, signs are nearly all in Chinese characters and spoken English is rarer. Wafting through every market is the pungent aroma of stinky tofu , a love-it-or-hate-it Taiwanese delicacy.

The Dandy Hotel, Tianjin Branch was very comfortable and a great base. After visiting Taipei Main Station and Ximen, the other big areas for hotels, they did not appeal as much. Otherwise, Google Maps had super useful live times for buses and  which carriages were least crowded on trains.
They are honest and use the metre so you know what you are paying for. Taxis are a great back up mode of transport because the MRT and buses won't always take you exactly to where you want to go. I'm after suggestions of a good area to base ourselves in. Ideally somewhere with easy access to major attractions and night markets, but not too busy/crowded. Last year we went to Japan and stayed right in the centre of Shibuya.
It is scantily populated, and so perfect for enjoying profound peace and tranquility. However, the relaxing ambiance is also perfect for fun-filled family activities, including photo opportunities and outdoor sports. If you're looking for a place to relax with your family, Taitung Seashore Park will not disappoint. Located off the eastern coast of Taiwan, Green Island is a natural hub for endless outdoor activities. It is particularly famous for a cave that serves as home to a stalagmite said to resemble the Goddess of Mercy. Other notable wonders include the hot saltwater springs as well as the coastline's coral reefs that offer a fascinating experience to scuba divers and snorkelers.

Just be very careful when riding, as people tend to just take any possible gap and I've definitely had a few near misses. On that note, when hiring scooters, is it compulsory to have an international drivers permit? I have licences for motorbikes, but not an IDP.
Taiwan is one of my favourite countries in Asia, there is so much to see and do yet it remains under marketed and relatively cheap. It also has natural beauty as well as significant history. Singapore is likely to be a cheaper option owing to the shear amount of seats available, although spot specials to Osaka could tilt that option to being lower at times. Etstar fly but you are more likely to get sales from Singapore so that would require two separate bookings if you go that route...

This car which we have booked at a cheap rate for 8 days will bring us to off-the-beat places in Taiwan. While Taipei is well connected by buses, MRT and train, it’s a little harder to explore Taichung using public transport. Kindness Hotel Taitung Branch, rated with a score of 8.7 from 1,787 reviewers, is one of the most popular hotels in Taitung City. Other top stays include Alicegarden Homestay, with an average rating of 7.9 from 54 reviewers, and Hotel Cham Cham Taitung, with a score of 8.7 from 2,043 reviewers. The main metropolis of the sprawling Taitung County, Taitung City faces the Pacific Ocean and cradles the region’s historical museums, arts centres, lakes and parks. With charming islands just offshore and botanical gardens nearby, there are plenty of ways to connect with culture and nature.
Seemed pretty safe as well as it is always bustling until the late hours of the night. I did a tour of Taipei night markets last night, and it was fun meeting new people, but it was especially fun because we stumbled across a huge street parade that the tour guide knew nothing of. As a solo traveller, I've found everyone to be very welcoming, and I haven't felt unsafe. People stop and chat to me or translate menus if I look lost. If you're in Taipei by yourself the reloadable EasyCard for public transport.
I actually stayed near the kaohsiung main station which is near where the old station was. Anyway that's what i suggest based on what i know. The hsr station is kind of far like up near the lake with the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. Alan Chou our tour guide was fantastic....informative and took care of all our questions and concerns.
